A Different Kind of Pause

Emma brings together breath, meditation, visualisation and body awareness with something less usual in the working day: live, improvised music.

Rather than offering these as separate techniques, she weaves them into an experience that asks very little of the participant other than a willingness to pause and receive. The music is created in the moment, responding to the people and atmosphere in the room, and becomes an integral part of the experience.

For a while, there is nothing to achieve. Space opens for the body to settle, the mind to clear, and something new to emerge.

“My experience is of being offered a ‘helicopter view’ of what I’m up to in the moment; extremely valuable. This morning it was an experience of being utterly in the present — not visiting the past, not anticipating the future, just right here.”

When the mind doesn't stop when you need it to

There are days when the mind seems to be everywhere except where we need it.

Thoughts competing for attention. Planning ahead while trying to concentrate on what is happening now. Moving from one demand to the next without enough space to step back and see clearly.

For leaders, there may also be the responsibility of holding other people, decisions and expectations while managing their own pressure.

Sometimes the way back to clarity can be simpler than we think.

A conscious breath. A moment of stillness. Music that asks nothing of us except to listen.

Why does a pause matter?

Research into slow breathing, meditation and music supports something many of us recognise through experience: these practices can influence how we experience and respond to stress.

Slow breathing has measurable effects on heart-rate variability associated with parasympathetic regulation, while workplace studies of meditation and mindfulness point to benefits for perceived stress and wellbeing. Research into music also suggests effects on psychological and physiological responses to stress.

Emma's distinctive approach brings these elements together — creating an experience that works through body, mind and senses, and opens space to pause, receive and regain clarity.

“My role is not to teach people who they should become.

It is to create the conditions in which they can reconnect with their own clarity, creativity and sense of value — and bring these more fully into the way they work, communicate and lead.”
