The Courage to Begin
Youth & Possibility
Rediscovering confidence, possibility,
and a way forward.
Programme available in Norwegian and English.
A six-week programme helping young adults reconnect with their confidence, recognise their own resources, and begin to see a meaningful way forward.
For young people who have become disconnected from education or working life, the way forward isn't always found by asking “What are you going to do?”

Sometimes we need to begin somewhere else.

With the person.

With a sense of value.
With curiosity.
With discovering what is already there.

The Courage to Begin creates a supportive group space where young adults can explore who they are, what matters to them, what they bring with them — and what might become possible when they begin to trust their own capacity to move forward.

For NAV, municipalities and organisations working with young adults outside education and employment.

Why The Courage to Begin?
When a young person has lost confidence in themselves or their future, another plan, application or expectation may not be enough to create movement.

The Courage to Begin starts with the person behind the situation.

The programme creates space to reconnect with a sense of value, recognise personal strengths and resources, become curious about what matters, and gradually begin exploring possibility again.

Rather than starting with the question “What should I do?”, we begin with:
Who am I? What matters to me? What do I already carry within me — and where might I begin?

From there, the possibility of meaningful action can begin to grow.

How We Work
The programme combines conversation and reflection with creative and embodied approaches that allow participants to explore themselves in different ways.

Music, movement, meditation, visualisation, creative exercises and group exploration may all become part of the process.
The emphasis is not on performing or being “good” at anything, but on curiosity, participation and discovering new ways of listening to oneself.

The programme is group-based and experiential, with space for individual reflection and each participant's own pace and process.

The Courage to Begin is a personal development and mastery programme, not therapy.

About Emma
Emma Rowena is a musician, facilitator, author and guide with more than three decades of experience across music, performance, teaching, creative development and work with individuals and groups.

Trained in music, theatre and performance at NTNU, the Trondheim Conservatory of Music and the Norwegian Academy of Music, she has worked as a professional musician for more than two decades, taught young musicians, facilitated creative projects and programmes, and held both artistic and administrative leadership roles.

Alongside her creative career, Emma has developed extensive experience in personal development and embodied practice. She is trained in somatic coaching and other approaches to inner awareness, and facilitates meditation, group processes and individual guidance. In her 1:1 work, she supports both young people and adults in recognising where they have become stuck, reconnecting with their own resources, and discovering the interests, abilities and sense of direction that can sometimes become difficult to see.

Her approach to young people is grounded in a simple conviction: there is something of value already present in every person. Rather than beginning with what is missing or what needs to be fixed, she creates spaces where curiosity, creativity and self-understanding can help bring existing strengths and possibilities into view.

The Courage to Begin brings these different strands of her experience together — creativity, embodied awareness, deep listening, reflection and practical exploration — in a programme designed to help young adults reconnect with themselves and begin moving towards what comes next.

Could this support
the young people you work with?
The Courage to Begin can be offered as a six-week programme for NAV, municipalities and organisations working with young adults.
I would be happy to explore the needs of your particular group and whether the programme could be a good fit.
